It's always, and forever will be, about the work. - Lady Gaga

1. I have been waking up at 6am the past two weeks just to do work all day for my upcoming Write Bloody book tour and book release show. It feels good to be productive and dedicated, but I am reminded again of how much work being an independent artist is. So many details, so many emails. The constant grind.

2. My book release show finally booked a venue and date. January 29th, 7pm at Honey in Minneapolis. It is going to be such an amazing show. The openers are Kerry Alexander, John Jodzio, and A LOUD HEART (Guante & Claire Taubenhaus). I’ll be posting the FB event page, etc.

3. I am still booking shows for this spring! Email me at sierrademulder@gmail.com if you have any leads or questions. I’ll post the tour schedule soon!

4. This crazy man will be hosting my book release show.

Hi. I'm kind of nervous to send you this message just because you are so incredibly talented. The first time I saw you perform was at my high school. I was beyond impressed. You truly moved me. I can relate to a lot of what you write, like the Ana poem you have. It made me cry because of the fact that I could find myself in your words. I kinda, sorta, have an eating disorder, but your poem helped me find the courage to start to get better. I've always wanted to say thank you, so thank you :)

Hi! Don’t be nervous. I am so thankful you can relate to my poems. You are brave and beautiful, and nothing is worth smothering that. I am honored to have helped you find your courage. xoxo S

Sierra, first I would like to say that I adore your poetry. Second, where in upstate New York are you from? I live in upstate New York (a suburb of Rochester, to be more specific) and my mind is always blown whenever anyone else is from around here. :D

1. Thank you! 2. I grew up in Unadilla, NY which is verrrry tiny but I started performing poetry in Oneonta.

Hi, uhm I was just wondering if it would be alright if I used one of your poems for my poetry program in high school Speech & Debate? I absolutely adore everything you write.

Yes, I would be honored! Thanks for asking.

Your writing is phenomenal. I cried watching your performances of "Werewolf" and "Garden". Everything is so raw and powerful and it rips my heart out of my chest. Thank you for giving me something amazing to relate to. X.

Thank you for the kind words! Hope your heart is doing okay… ;)

Bonjour! I just wanted to tell you how much I love your poems. I carry your book with me everywhere! I showed it to my friend and she loved it so much, I'm getting it for her for Christmas. I realize this is a bit random, but I really wanted to tell you! Oh, also I was wondering if your poem Werewolf was published anywhere, or if it's going to be in your next book? It's one of my favorites, and I would love to do it for speech class. Well, that's all...Merci et au revoir.

Thank you! I don’t think werewolf is published anywhere and it is not in my next book. If you email me at sierrademulder@gmail.com, I can forward you the text.

Since you have a new writebloody book coming out I assume you'll be touring some more? If so please come to texas and announce it so I can spend lots of money driving wherever you are to see you and flounder about like the poetry fangirl I am.

Yes! New book and lots of new shows coming in February. I’ll announce the dates soon. I NEED to return to Texas. I am working on College Station and Austin, I believe…any other directions I should go in?

Dec 8, 2011
When will you return to College Station?

As soon as I can! I am working on it right now actually…

Sierra, your poetry has gotten me through more than you could imagine! I have also shared it with my friends and they have benefited as well! you are an inspiration and when I imagine where I want to go in the poetry world. The intangibles inspire me and it's safe to say that besides my poetry coach Kerri Shaffer - you are one of my favorites! I hope all is well and I would be honored if you wrote me back :)

Thank you! I am so glad and honored my poetry has affected your life. Hopefully our paths will cross one day?

“

You will be out with friends
when the news of her existence
will be accidentally spilled all over
your bar stool. Respond calmly
as if it was only a change in weather,
a punch line you saw coming.
After your fourth shot of cheap liquor,
leave the image of him kissing another woman
in the toilet.

In the morning, her name will be
in every headline: car crash, robbery, flood.
When he calls you, ignore the hundreds of ropes
untangling themselves in your stomach.
You are the best friend again. He invites
you over for dinner and you say yes
too easily. Remind yourself this isn’t special,
it’s only dinner, everyone has to eat.
When he greets you at the door, do not think
for one second you are the reason
he wore cologne tonight.

In his kitchen, he will hand-feed you
a piece of red pepper. His laugh
will be low and warm and it will make you
feel like candlelight. Do not think this is special.
Do not count on your fingers the number
of freckles you could kiss too easily.
Try to think of pilot lights and olive oil,
not everything you have every loved about him,
or it will suddenly feel boiling and possible
and so close. You will find her bobby pins
laying innocently on his bathroom sink.
Her bobby pins. They look like the wiry legs
of spiders, splinters of her undressing
in his bed. Do not say anything.
Think of stealing them, wearing them
home in your hair. When he hugs you goodbye,
let him kiss you on the forehead.
Settle for target practice.

At home, you will picture her across town
pressing her fingers into his back
like wet cement. You will wonder
if she looks like you, if you are two bedrooms
in the same house. Did he fall for her features
like rearranged furniture? When he kisses her,
does she taste like wet paint?

You will want to call him.
You will go as far as holding the phone
in your hand, imagine telling him
unimaginable things like you are always
ticking inside of me
and I dream of you
more often than I don’t.
My body is a dead language
and you pronounce
each word perfectly.

Do not call him.
Fall asleep to the hum of the VCR.
She must make him happy.
She must be
She must be his favorite place in Minneapolis.
You are a souvenir shop, where he goes
to remember how much people miss him
when he is gone.
